Genesis? “Not another nostalgic post!” the freshers would crib. But what the heck!
facchey hi hai na :P
What started as a guy’s
weirdest figment of imagination, culminated into a really long thread, a community, a blog, and even matured into real-life meet-ups. The soul; the driving factor behind all this is beyond me to fathom. I could just hope to portray my observation through a flashback link montage. This flashback is only a small fraction of events that formed the thread. Given the time constraint, that’s the best I could do.
In the beginning, the thread didn’t have any shape; no concrete thing to push it forward – except of course, that it has to the longest thread. Veterans Tirtho, Indrajit(I hate to call him Raja) and Sumeet helped give the thread some tangible shape. More like giving it an engine that’d push it forward, come what may. Although you could find my post in the second page, my journey actually
began from the
scribble games. I think Kanu started her’s from there as well. Same goes for SM. The genesis of the name
TLTE however began
here.
Games changed, but the participation persisted. “Sorry, had a call. wats goin on w/ the story? howz Mr X?” ,
an example excuse by a member for missing a few minutes of action – the thread was gripping indeed. With all the excitement, there were down times as well. However TLTians like Sowmi, kept the ship from
sinking time and again.
If you browse across pages, you’d realize how easily people struck rapport with each other. The connections were instantaneous – no ego, no prejudice, no apprehensions. The
nicknaming process commenced as well. We’d often
raise each other’s spirits during times of distress. And even had
online birthday parties, where we would cut virtual cake! Some relationships got formalized, like for example:
Net sister!
Although majority of time was spent on playing all sorts of games, we had a few occasional breaks with serious chats as well.
Intellectual property rights,
current (masala) affairs – you name it, we discussed it all. I even got to
improve my Hindi. You wouldn’t believe! I had managed to start a
war in the Hindi community.
One peculiar thing about this thread was that although most of the threads in the India community got spammed by trolls, TLTE was spared. I don’t know why. That said, TLTE did have its share of trolls. Harsh tried his best to
troll spam, only to concede defeat to a unique display of collaborative combat by TLTians. Two TLTians were awarded the highest award for valor –
TLTE chakra. This collaborative effort was possible because TLTE was already consolidated and corporatized with its very own
board members. It was only later when we made it compulsory to hail the board – HTB!
Slowly auxiliary
Yahoo conference meetings started happening. Conference meetings were too fast to follow; I was too accustomed to the pace of the Orkut thread. So my attendance in these meetings were limited :P
And then our godmother Kanu came up with an idea of a
TLTE blog. The blog was to have articles on TLTE experiences. The
initial days were however tumultuous. We didn’t have many members who blogged or would want to blog. There was no original banner or design to identify this blog with. I spent a good amount of time working on the CSS and banner for this blog. The initial design was however rejected ( . In a livid state, I made another banner in 2 minutes time, which fortunately was liked by all (what fools na? :P ).
New TLTians are already part of what followed. The blog itself documents most of it. So instead of harping on more, I’d request freshers to blog more on their TLTE experiences so that we oldies could have an insight on their perspective. May the spirit of TLTE live forever for us to cherish -- keep blogging. Adios!
